Content updates

Content updates could relate to text, visuals, and featured pages, and may involve edits to existing content or adding new material (such as a new blog post).

Why update my content?

Fresh, accurate content shows your visitors that your business is active and engaged — and that builds trust. It also ensures clients always see current information, services, and pricing.

If you’re investing in SEO to increase visibility on Google, content updates play an essential role. Search engines often favour current websites, and new content can help improve visibility and drive ongoing traffic.

How often should I update content?

The frequency of content updates depends on your goals and your business. If your website promotes regular offers, includes a blog, or supports an SEO strategy, you’ll need to update content more frequently than a simple brochure-style site.

As a general rule, your website should reflect your current real-world business. If your pricing or terms and conditions change, your site should reflect that ASAP. Even small updates — like swapping out old team photos or adjusting service descriptions — show care and attention.

There’s no set rule for blog frequency, but one post (or more) per month is ideal. But quality is more important than being consistent, so match it with what you have to share, and your capacity.

Platform and plugins

Most modern websites run on a content management system (CMS) like WordPress, and rely on plugins to add functionality such as contact forms.

The CMS is the structure behind your site; plugins are the tools that make it work the way you want.

Why update CMS and plugins?

Security is the most important reason to keep your CMS and plugins updated, as outdated software is a common entry point for hackers. Updates often include patches that close known vulnerabilities and protect your site.

Besides, as platforms evolve, so do their plugins. If updates are ignored for too long, things could break. Plugins may stop working properly, or even block you from installing new ones.

I’ve seen sites that have been neglected for months and years, resulting in CMS and plugins getting out of sync and causing everything from basic to critical issues. In some cases, it was impossible to add new features or make changes without a rebuild.

Regular updates avoid these pitfalls: They keep your site stable, functional, and ready to grow.

How often should I update CMS and plugins?

Ideally, update as soon as a new update is available. Most plugins allow automatic updates that help with this.

If you’re on a Healthy Pixels Maintenance Agreement, we’ll check that your WordPress installation and plugins are up to date every month. We’ll also test for any bugs or conflicts caused by updates, ensuring everything runs as it should.
